The aims and objectives of the P. E. department are to promote the importance of health and fitness through participation in physical activity; to acquire knowledge, skills and understanding in a variety of activities suitable for the age, ability and experience of the pupils. In addition to this, we aim to help pupils develop moral, social and cultural awareness, as well as helping to promote key skills such as communication, working with others and problem solving. These skills will hopefully embed an attitude that will enable boys to enjoy the benefits of sport throughout their lives. Boys in Year 3 benefit from two PE lessons a week with the remainder of the school having one per week. All PE lessons take place on site, either using the schools astroturf pitches or the gymnasium.
Pupils will be given all practicable opportunities to experience competitive sport through House matches, squads, teams and events in a variety of situations. All matches take place during the week, in games afternoons with each year group having two Games sessions throughout the week. All boys will have the chance to represent the school in competitive fixtures throughout the term. All boys take part in two Games lessons a week with all fixtures against other schools taking place during this time. In the autumn term the boys play football at Westminster Playing Fields with excellent facilities that cater for all Year groups. In the Spring term Rugby is played right on our doorstep at the Richmond Athletic Ground where we also have a flourishing partnership with London Scottish Rugby Club who join our experienced coaches in the Spring term and implement a 12 week coaching program through the age groups. Finally, in the Summer term the school uses Richmond Cricket Club, which again is walking distance from the school.
The school are part of IAPS and enter their competitions accordingly throughout the year.
