Learning Support

Supporting and promoting achievement for all

The Learning Support Department at Falcons Prep plays a central role in ensuring that all pupils are able to reach their potential as learners. We operate an ‘Open Door’ policy whereby we recognise that at some point during their academic career, most pupils will require additional support to match their changing needs.

Learning Support is provided for those who need help with literacy, numeracy or general study skills. We have an experienced and specialised team of support teachers who work closely with the students. These include withdrawn targeted interventions tailored to the individual child’s needs, supported prep sessions, essay planning/comprehension strategies sessions, revision sessions for Year 7 and 8 pupils and touch typing classes. In addition, wherever possible, support teachers work in the classroom to assist boys requiring additional help.

We consider it vital to have good lines of communication with parents, staff and outside agencies so that learning support is dovetailed into the child’s education at Falcons Prep. We monitor and review progress closely. Parents know that they are always able to contact us whether by phone, email or in person. The school has well established links with other external professionals such as educational therapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists.

We believe that the most important thing we can do is to raise a child’s self-esteem through a growth mindset approach, believing in every individual as well as encouraging the children to strive towards becoming the best they can be.
