Falcons Prep Richmond is proud to be delivering an outstanding Distance Learning provision, comprising daily Live lessons via Microsoft TEAMS as appropriate per year group/subject which enables our boys to successfully continue their learning adventures remotely. Our engaging Enrichment & Clubs programme also offers a diverse range of challenging extra curricular activities from sport and music to science, baking and more.
‘I’ve been hugely impressed (and relieved!) by how independently things have been running, with really no input required from our side at all, other than during the breaks…. It is testament to the setup/environment you have created in the virtual classroom, and the engagement achieved.’
When school is suspended or the building is not accessible, ‘distance learning’ will be implemented and the following guidelines will be put in place. Distance Learning is a way of learning remotely without being in regular face-to-face contact with your teacher/pupils in a classroom. It is used to ensure pupils can continue to access the curriculum and make good progress in all areas of their academic and pastoral development.
What is distant / remote learning?
There are different definitions out there, but the ones used by the DfE can be viewed here:
- Remote learning: a broad term encompassing any learning that happens outside of the classroom, with the teacher not present in the same location as the pupils. At Falcons Prep, we use the term Distance Learning.
- Digital remote education: often known as online learning, this is remote learning delivered through digital technologies.
- Blended learning: a mix of face-to-face and remote methods. An example would be the ‘flipped classroom’, where main input happens remotely (for example through video), while practice and tutoring happen in class.
- Synchronous education: this is live; asynchronous education is when the material is prepared by the teacher and accessed by the pupil at a later date.
Distance Learning at Falcons Prep
The Falcons Firefly Hub provides a stimulating and rigorous curriculum, delivering academic continuity and pastoral support, allowing our pupils to thrive. Since March 2020, we have been working to introduce a system of remote digital learning to further enhance our delivery of the highest quality of education. Learning through our online learning platform – Firefly – with support from the Office365 package and Microsoft Teams, will be a
new experience for our pupils.
Although this will require work to adapt to this new way of learning, there is real educational and personal opportunity, much of which has already been felt across the community. We are committed to ensuring that your child continues to receive a top-quality education. Working in a more independent, self-driven setting, you can expect your child to develop as an effective learner, particularly focusing on their study skills, creativity and critical thinking; traits on which future progress at senior school, and beyond, rely. Importantly we are always here for you and your children.
