Mealtimes are an important opportunity to come together and enjoy both food and each other’s company, and we remove any unnecessary stresses to ensure they are enjoyable for everyone. We are sensitive to the needs of all our boys and all dietary requirements are accommodated.

Healthy snacks are provided at morning break, with sandwiches provided to boys staying on for after-school clubs. At lunchtime, our wonderful school kitchen staff serve up a delicious and varied range of hot and cold dishes from a changing weekly menu. Any feedback on meals is directed via the School Council to ensure the children’s voices are heard.

Boys eat in a series of sittings where staff are on hand to encourage good table manners and engage them in conversation. Assistance with clearing and tidying up is provided by Upper School pupils on a weekly house rota basis.

We have a number of allocated areas where boys can either release energy playing sport or find space to play with friends. Matron is also always on hand at break times for any boys who need to talk.

The Astro: A much-loved area, located across the road in Richmond Athletic Association, that is perfect for football as well as throwing and catching games using the rebound net. It is also a space that encourages the imagination, and boys are encouraged to devise their own games here together. It has also been known to house a whole street of Bug Hotels!

The Playground: Host to many a game of foursquare as well as hours of imaginary play.

The Gallery: Our well-being space where boys can retreat to a quiet area to read, draw, colour or simply take some time out.

While there is a rota for the use of the Astro, the boys have the freedom to move between the Playground and Gallery in response to their mood.
