Year 6 Trip to The National Archives

I really enjoyed the trip to the National Archives it helped me very much to understand what the National Archives was.  First we met our instructor ‘Tammy’.  She brought us into the museum and we talked about what kind of files they had.  They had 11 million files there at the Archives.  She then showed us large wooden boxes that Henry VIII had used to keep files in.  Next she showed us tally sticks which are wooden sticks with cuts in them to show how much tax you owed the king.  The final thing we did in the museum was that we looked at the Domesday Book which William Duke of Normandy made when he took over England so he knew how much land people owned and how much money they had.  We then went and did a role play on when the commissioners interviewed the villages for information for the Domesday Book.
