Year 4 vs Kew College
Year 4 Athletic vs Kew College, 0 – 1
Falcons showed a big improvement from their last performance but still have areas to improve on. In a fairly even matched game, Kew College managed to score mid-way through the second half but Falcons showed good determination and battled until the end to try and pull a goal back. Good saves from Oscar Sykes and tough tackling from Joe Watton, and Harry Kilsby exemplified the Falcons defensive performance whilst Alex Jennings and Freddie Wilson linked up well together from midfield to attack. In training we will be working on encouraging the boys to keep their heads up when in possession of the ball which should add vision to their game. Literally, heads up boys! On to the next game.
Year 4 Rangers vs Kew College, 4 – 0
The Year 4 Rangers put in an excellent performance on Tuesday, winning 4-0 against Kew Green. Two goals each for Billy Miller and Haruto Katsumata secured the win. What has been especially pleasing has been their massive improvement with their positioning on the pitch and their ball skills. Well done.
Year 6 vs Denmead & Twickenham Prep
Year 6 Athletic vs Denmead & Twickenham Prep, 0 – 2 & 0 – 2
Despite two defeats the boys are making good strides and are starting to play the style of football for which they have been aiming. Seven-a-side football suits the way that these boys play and their efforts were not reflected in the results. There were some fabulous interchanges between Tom Elder, Tom Korn and Alex Sharpe-Neal which resulted in chances which on another day they would have tucked away. However it was at the other end of the field where the boys really stood up. Tom Blackler was imperious in goal and made a string of great saves to deny the opposition. He was ably assisted by his defence and in particular Sam Moon shone.
Sam is starting to show real leadership qualities in his performances and hopefully there is more to come from him and his team mates.
Year 6 Rangers vs Denmead & Twickenham Prep, 0 – 0 & 0 - 3
In their first match, The Rangers battled to a hard fought 0-0 draw with Twickenham.
Both sides played some good passing football and it was only the constant vigilance of the two goal keepers that resulted in the eventual stalemate. In the second game Denmead proved more formidable opponents, with the Rangers eventually succumbing to a 3-0 defeat. Tired legs perhaps were more to blame for the rather unflattering score line rather than any dearth of commitment...
Gus Baker and Christopher Li deserve special mention for their valiant defending, while Captain Aidan Gibbons proved a steadying influence in midfield. All the boys can be proud of their efforts in what was an enjoyable afternoon of football. Well done Rangers.
Year 3 vs Tower House
Year 3 Athletic vs Tower House, 7 – 0
This was easily the best match that these boys have ever played as a unit. From start to finish they completely dominated the match because of their quick passing, positioning and support that they gave to one another, not to mention the no nonsense defending all over the pitch. The half time score was 1 -0 to the Falcons but pretty much from the kick off in the second half there were six or seven passes and gola gola gola! The flood gates opened at that point with the boys running out deserved 7 – 0 winners, it’s very difficult to mention any one boy in particular as it was the way they linked up and worked together as a team that was so special. Well done to all the boys, they’ve set themselves high standards, but they are definitely capable of maintaining them.
Year 3 Rangers vs Tower House, 0 - 4
The boys will be disappointed with the way they started this game but can be proud with their huge display of heart and refusal to give up. Unfortunately the game was lost in the initial exchanges but the boys will certainly learn from their experiences.
Year 3 Rovers vs Tower House, 3 - 0
The Year 3 Rovers played their second competitive fixture of the season on Wednesday afternoon, looking to add an offensive element to their already solid defensive play. This they did in fine style, with a well deserved 3 – 0 victory over Tower House. Front man Thomas Johnston, proved a constant threat to the opposition defence and he was ably assisted by midfielders Sebastian Crabb and Eddie Lund. All three boys scored fine goals, with Eddie’s 10 yard screamer being particularly eye catching. In defence, Cornelius McGrath and Sam Robinson Adams played with great commitment and both tackled tirelessly throughout.
A fine performance from the whole team, well done Rovers!
And Finally
Correction
Just a quick note to say that the dubious goals committee have had their weekly meeting and it can now be confirmed that it was in fact Miloš Decermic who scored for the Year 5 Rovers against Fulham Prep.
