Year 4 Athletic vs Wetherby, 0 – 0
Falcons Athletic played their last game of the season and showed great teamwork and determination in their efforts to score against Wetherby. Alas, no goal was scored but both teams had opportunities to break the deadlock on several occasions. The team tried to move the ball around but soon realised that a more direct approach was necessary when playing on a smaller pitch. Strong tackles and direct passes were the order of the day and nobody failed to deliver on that front. At the end of the game the boys discussed their progression this season and all agreed they had become more of a team and supportive of each other. On that positive note, we end the football season.
Year 4 Rangers vs Wetherby, 1 – 7
The Rangers came up against a talented Wetherby side and found it difficult to control possession and despite committed performances in defence saw two goals put past them in the first half. This was to be the pattern of the second half also but credit to the boys as they kept fighting all the way through and were rewarded with a goal in the final minute. Theo Bailey broke into the Wetherby box and finished with aplomb.
Year 4 Rovers vs Wetherby, 1 – 4
Wetherby’s strength and depth showed in this fixture but there were a number of positives to be taken from the game. Joseph Dormer showed his composure in the midfield, whilst his replacement in goal, Dougie Barber made one tremendous save to deny a Wetherby attack. For the second game running Jonathan Steel got himself on the scoresheet, this week with a brave effort, diving in to get to the ball ahead of the Wetherby goalkeeper and poke the ball home.
Year 3 Athletic vs Wetherby, 3 – 0
Another dominant performance from the Year 3 Athletic as they cruised to a 3 – 0 victory against the oldest of foes, Wetherby. Typically good passing and movement resulted in a plethora of chances and the margin of victory could well have been more. Goals from Adrian Gui, Joseph O’Pray and Olivier Wong ensured the win and rounded off a great term for this side who have been fantastic throughout.
Year 3 Rangers vs Wetherby, 0 – 0
A local derby was a fitting way to conclude this term’s fixtures for the Year 3 Rangers and it was a typically close affair. The match was very congested due to the small playing area but the boys dictated the game - camping in Wetherby’s half for the majority. Unfortunately a goal didn’t come, largely down to the heroics of Wetherby’s goalkeeper. The boys have worked hard all term and the performances in recent weeks have reflected that. Well done to all the boys involved in the Rangers squad this term.
Year 3 Rovers vs Wetherby, 0 – 0
The Year 3 Rovers played their final match of the season at the Linford Christie stadium, in blustery conditions on Tuesday afternoon. Against a determined Wetherby Prep side, the Rovers battled hard and did not let the strong winds get the better of them. The eventual 0-0 score line is testament to the strong defensive performances from both teams and the vigilance of their goal keepers. Ewan Lorimer had a fine game in goal for the Falcons and he was ably assisted by defenders Sam Robinson Adams and Jack Rich. Cornelius McGrath demonstrated his versatility switching from central defence to attack and showed some good link up play with strike partner Thomas Johnston. Another spirited display from the Rovers. Well done boys!
