Extracts from Year 4 Trip to the British Museum

I looked up to see an immense Roman like palace looming over us as we walked into the great hall of the museum.  I could see large stone lions looking maliciously like the real thing ready to pounce on you at any moment.  We went through a massive archway and into an unbelievably big hall with windows for a roof.  In the centre a cylinder reached to the roof and in bold golden letters I read The British Museum.  ‘Wow’ I exclaimed.

In the British Museum we had to complete a challenge on the Romans.  But, before that we were split into four groups.  Our challenge on Romans was to find out about life in Roman Britain.  You were allowed to research either food, pottery, buildings, jobs, tools for trade, jewellery, coins, statues or animals.  Our group chose to research coins.  It was fun and interesting to study coins.

The Roman section inside the museum was quite busy so we had to stay together.  There were lots of sculpted heads of emperors like Julius Caesar and Titus.  We found the armour of a roman solider.  We also found a man doing a hand stand.  After that we had to investigate our topic which was coins.  I found out that coins with different pictures on them came from different places and I drew a little coin as a picture.
