English at The Falcons School begins from the premise that we are all writers, so every boy is taught to see himself as a novelist, poet, essayist and critic. We want our boys to think and argue passionately and the classrooms should be alive with the sound of debate, but we also believe in fostering a genuine love of books and reading. In preparation for Common Entrance Examinations, boys study a variety of literary texts where they are taught to appreciate, understand and analyse the writers’ intentions.
